Hello once again to everyone out there. I wish I had more time to blog, but I am completely swamped with game annotations (NIC, Europe Echecs) and interviews (Chessbase, 64) right now!

However, I will be giving a simul and a likely speech at Washington University here in Saint Louis on February 26th! Stay tuned for more details!

In completely non chess matters, I would also like to give a big shout out to my mother who celebrated her 51st birthday yesterday! For all the support I have received over the years, I am eternally grateful. Cheers!!

    Will you write about the unique aspect that chess allows….the DRAW! Reading your recaps of the recent tournament you won, the rules in which that tournament was played under allowed you to make decisions that in the end put you at the top with most points…..Do you think taking away draw offers enhances the games or otherwise?
    Maybe you just use whatever rules in affect to give yourself the greater chance of winning the tournament at hand?

    I knew you would be busy after this torunament win. John Watson over at ICC would also like an interview, I’m sure. I know all of your fans do. I bet you will be the cover for the NIC issue. I plan on buying that one. On a sad note, I heard that this year’s Linares Tournament may be cancelled due to monetary issues.

    To aerodarts: how many draws have you OFFERED or ACCEPTED since you started playing chess?

    If you played chess for a living, how much would you risk if a position was unclear and that you could very well lose; and with it, a shot at 1st, 2nd or even third. Because of this, you would miss out on significant prize money.

    Yes, there are some under 15 move draws in the first round in some tourneys when the players have not been too tired mentally. But in a tournament like Tata Steel, 13 rounds is pretty long. Ask GM Wesley So who just withdrew from Aeroflot because he is frankly too tired.

    Fact is, after playing really well at Tata Steel, he simply was burned out. But he probably played Aeroflot to boost his ratings or to make money. Last I checked, chess isn’t exactly lucrative unless you’re at the very top.

    Do us a favor, aerodarts, until you DON’T make nor ACCEPT any draw offers, please do not bring this bogus argument here.

    Some draws are warranted period.
